Our Refurbishment Process

Last updated: __ ___ 2026

Seven steps, every device, every time. No shortcuts.

1. Intake inspection

Each device is checked in by serial number against our system, blacklist databases, and the manufacturer's activation servers. Devices reported lost or stolen are returned to the supplier and reported to police where appropriate. Chassis, screen, hinge, ports and buttons get a visual once-over and we assign a provisional grade.

2. Secure data wipe

Storage is wiped to DoD 5220.22-M standard or the equivalent manufacturer protocol. The device is then factory-reset and the wipe is verified by re-imaging. We can supply a data-destruction certificate on request.

3. Functional testing β€” 40 points

Each device is run through a 40-point checklist covering: power-on, BIOS / EFI / bootloader, display (dead-pixel, brightness, colour, touch where applicable), keyboard, trackpad, click-pad, hinge cycle, all ports (USB, USB-C, Thunderbolt, HDMI, DisplayPort, audio jack, SD reader), Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz + 6 GHz where applicable), Bluetooth, NFC, cellular bands (where applicable), GPS, all cameras, all microphones, all speakers, accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light, proximity, fingerprint reader, IR camera, charging at advertised wattage, thermals under load, fans, and storage SMART status.

4. Cleaning

Chassis ultrasonic clean. Screen polish with non-abrasive solvent. Port debris removal with brass picks. Keycaps deep-cleaned where removable. Silicone ear tips and foam ear pads replaced with new on audio devices.

5. Battery check

Battery health and cycle count are measured against manufacturer baseline. If below the grade threshold (Excellent 90%, Very Good 85%, Good 80%), the battery is replaced with a genuine or equivalent manufacturer-spec cell, and the cell is then load-tested at multiple draw rates.

6. Repackaging

Original retail packaging is restored where we have it. Where we don't, the device ships in TeraMart-branded generic packaging that's been engineered for protection β€” corrugated outer, custom-cut foam inner, sealed accessory pouch. Every device ships with the appropriate charger and cable for that model. The listing tells you exactly what to expect.

7. QC sign-off

A second qualified technician verifies the work and runs a 10-point spot-check. The device only goes onto the shelf with a signed-off sticker bearing the QC date and technician ID. That QC date appears on every refurbished product page as the Last fully tested on field.

What happens to devices that don't pass

If a device can't be repaired economically, it's traded to our certified recycler partner for component recovery and responsible disposal. Nothing goes to landfill. We never sell parts-only or non-functional units.

Where we do the work

Our refurbishment workshop is in Sydney. Every TeraMart-certified refurbished device passes through it. Stock we receive that's already been refurbished by a manufacturer's program (Apple Certified Refurbished, Samsung Certified Pre-Owned, Microsoft Authorised Refurbished) gets intake-inspected and QC-spot-checked here before listing, but doesn't go through the full 7 steps again.
